Disability bill passes second reading at Yobe Assembly

The bill on People Living With Disabilities (PLWD) has passed first and
second reading at Yobe State House of Assembly.

Presenting the order paper on Tuesday at floor of the House, Hon. Buba
Ibrahim Kalallawa, Hon. Ahmed Lawan Mirwa and Hon. Mohammed Bazam said the bill after being passed would give the beneficiaries some
privileges and that it would prohibit all forms of discrimination on ground of disability and impose fine for any violation.

The sitting which allowed the suspension of rule 74 (1) to allow for the second reading, committed the bill to Social Development and Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) committee for public hearing and to also submit its report in two weeks.

Speaking shortly, the chairman of Joint National Association of
Persons with disabilities in the state, Usman Bura Gabai, said the
step taken by the Assembly has given them hope to join other states of
Lagos, Plateau, Nassarawa, Jigawa and Kano states that have signed the
bill into law.
