DOAS raises the alarm over illegal revenue collectors

The Department of Outdoor Advertisement and Signages (DOAS) has raised alarm on the activities of illegal consultants, who collect money from unsuspecting clients, without remitting it to the department.
In an interview in Abuja Thursday, director of DOAS, Dr. Baba-Gana Adam, noted that the activities of illegal revenue collectors in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) have denied the department substantial amount of revenue over the years.

Adam also stated that the department is already cooperating with the FCT Police command, chairmen of the six area councils and their revenue officers to arrest those involved in the illegal collection of revenue from clients.

He added that the office is also adopting technology to track the culprit, adding that the menace has continued for a long time. He said it requires long time and focus to fight it to a standstill.

The director also advised clients in the FCT to always resist illegal payment to anyone coming to ask for cash, saying that the department does not take cash from organisations, while effort should be made to report such persons to the police and other security organisations.
Adam stated that the department has refurbished all the vehicles it needed for operations, in addition with other ones it got from its parent body, the Abuja Municipal Management Council (AMMC), while effort is being made to engage artisan in the city, whose details are taken for security reasons for people to call and patronise them.
