A man, identified as Hasan Yusuf Taiwo, has allegedly beaten to death the mother of his four children, identified as Chibuzor Aloh, from Nike, Enugu state, in Zone 9, Lugbe, in the Federal Capital Territory.
Speaking with Blueprint in Abuja Sunday, a neighbour of the deceased, who pleaded anonymity, said that the incident is the extreme form of domestic violence as the man had been beating the deceased during the last 10 years they were cohabiting.
He said: “Taiwo and Chibuzor have been living together for the last 10 years, but he didn’t pay her bride price. Taiwo is a Yoruba, while Chibuzor is Igbo, from Enugu state. They have been cohabiting for about 10 years with 4 children. The last female child is about 8 months old. He was always beating her at the slightest provocation.
“The last incident that triggered her death is as a result of the beating she received from him on Wednesday last week over a phone charger they were dragging. According to neighbours, while he was beating her, Chibuzor hit her head on the wall, collapsed and defecated on herself. Immediately the man finished, he left her in that condition till her children drew the attention of one of their neighbours, who resuscitated her.
“She was at home doing self medication till everything became critical yesterday evening. However, before she could be rushed to the hospital, she gave up the ghost. Do you know that when the man’s attention was drawn to the dying woman, he said he was coming but refused to show up till after about an hour. He ran away after realising the situation and Chibuzor’s body has been deposited at the Abuja National Hospital morgue.
“Taiwo is a young, vibrant man. He would spend money to take care of himself, but would allow the woman to look haggard. She was the one that always provided for the house by making snacks for sale. She also offered laundry and other services that would fetch money for the family upkeep. Even the money she saved up and gave for Taye to pay her bride price was used by the latter to buy a car.”
When our reporter contacted the FCT Police Command, the PPRO, ASP Miriam Yusuf, said the command is aware of the development and is presently investigating.
“The command is aware of the unfortunate incident in Lugbe involving the death of one Chibuzor. We are presently investigating the incident. The public will be informed of the true situation as soon as we are through with our investigation,” she said.
