Kogi state chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Comrade Momohjimoh Adeiza, has called on the state House of Assembly to pass the Kogi Matrimonial Law and Child Right Supportive Bill in the interest of the society.

He made the call Wednesday at a media roundtable organised by Foundation for Enhancement and Promotion of Family Life (FEPFL) in collaboration with FEPFL Marriage and Career Academy in partnership with the NUJ, Kogi state council.

He described the bill as timely, saying the bill which is currently at its second reading, would pave the room for peace and increase revenue generation in the state.

The union leader called on the state assembly to pass the bill in order to reduce domestic violence, and divorce amongst others.

Executive Director FEPFL, John Ojochenemi, in his address, described divorce as the major cause of social vices in the society and appealed to the state assembly to quickly pass the Kogi Matrimonial Law and Child Right Supportive Bill.

He said if passed into law, each local government area of the state has the capacity to benefit an accumulation revenue generation of over N131 million per annum through processing of marriage.

He lamented that divorce certificate remains the easiest certificate to get in the society now with broken down homes and marriages and described the bill currently in the assembly as a win-win situation for the family, the society and revenue generation.

The executive director added that when marriages are rightly processed, there will be peace and security in the society, saying it will in the long run create jobs for civil society organisations  and reduce spending on insecurity by government.
