Don’t allow ASUU strike linger for another week, SDP urges Buhari

The Social Democratic Party (SDP) has called on President Muhammadu Buhari, not to allow the ongoing strike of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) to linger for another week, saying ‘the continuous neglect of the education sector amounts to intentional destruction of the future of the country.’

A statement signed in Abuja by the SDP National Publicity Secretary Alfa Mohammed, said no nation can develop under poor education system.

While welcoming President Buhari and his party the All Progressives Congress (APC) back to Nigeria after his medical leave in London, SDP said there was need for urgent revival of economic activities that have potentials to empower the citizens and reduce the current hardship in the .

“The on going Asuu strike should not be allowed to last for another week, as the continuous neglect of the education sector amounts to intentional destruction of the future of our great country as no nation can develop under poor education system.

“The the need for urgent revival of economic activities that have potentials to empower the citizens and reduce the current hardship in the country, especially the payment of pensions and workers salaries, funding of capital projects and  empowerment of the youths.”

The party urged President Buhari to take steps that will cause a revisit and passage of the bill on the restructuring of the country by the National Assembly, “as we believe that the restructuring of the country holds the key to its future advancement, peace and unity.

“The review and strengthening of the approaches to the fight against terrorism and insecurity, particularly in relation to the Boko Haram, Herdsmen and Kidnap terrorists.”
