Don’t clear Haruna as minister until…, Aturu tells Senate

Lagos-based lawyer, Bamidele Aturu, has said the nomination of Boni Haruna as a minister is an indictment on the Federal Government’s fight against corrupt practices.

He has, therefore, called on the National Assembly not to clear Haruna’s nomination until he has cleared his name of the allegation hanging on his head.

Aturu, who said thBamidele Aturue nomination is sending wrong signals to the world that Nigeria’s ruling party is only paying lip service to the fight against corrupt practices, added that the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) should have waited for the outcome of the court cases involving both men before making the appointment.

“I am shocked that PDP will be appointing somebody who has allegations of corruption hanging on his head. That doesn’t show that the party is seriously committed to the fight against corruption.

“That doesn’t show that the party believes in doing what is morally sound and correct.

“So, I think it sends a wrong signal to the world that the ruling party in Nigeria does not see anything wrong in fighting corruption. Ordinarily, it should have waited for these people to clear their names before they are nominated for any appointment.

“It is very sad and I will be calling on the National Assembly not to approve the nomination of Haruna until he can satisfactorily clear his name of those allegation against him,” Aturu said.
