Don’t overflog call for Pantami’s resignation, activist warns

A Kogi state-based human rights activist, Alhaji Ahmed Adoke, has urged advocates of “Pantami must resign” over an alleged past ideas over alleged comments on religious issues to desist.

He said the issue has been over-flogged by his critics.
Dr. Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami is the current minster of Communication and Digital Economy.
Expressing his view on “Pantami must resign” advocates in Okene, Kogi state, Thursday, the rights activist lamented that the issue of the minister’s past comments on religious extremism, which he has since renounced, attracted undue wide interest.

He is convinced that the call for the minister’s resignation or sack is politically motivated.
Adoke who is the patron of the Righteous On-Lookers Association stated that it was wrong for anybody to call for a fresh prosecution of a sinner after he has repented, adding that even God forgives sinners who have repented.
While urging critics to tread cautiously, Adoke reminded critics of the fact that everyone has one ignoble past or the other.
The human rights activist said ideas/actions are influenced by situation, time and circumstances, adding that it is natural for human beings to change ideas in line with time, depending on the prevailing circumstances.
He praised the minster for coming out publicly to admit his past ideas on religious extremism, over which he has since taken steps to correct by engaging in advocacy campaigns round the country before he became a minster.
