Don’t stop youth empowerment, Nasarawa assembly urged

Nasarawa youths presently undergoing youth empowerment training at the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) camp, Keffi, have appealed to the House of Assembly to allow them complete the scheme.
They spoke against the backdrop of the invitation of the Commissioner for Youths and Sports, Godwin Mbastave, alongside other government officials by the Assembly to explain the purpose and funding of the scheme.
Speaking to newsmen, most of the youth said the scheme would help them realise their dream of becoming self reliant.
Muktari Yahaya from Keffi said since leaving school in the past six years, he was unable to find employment but was hopeful that with the scheme, it would be better for him.
Amina Jibrin Yunusa from Karu also pleaded with the state legislature to bury its differences with the executive and work towards the upliftment of youths in the state.
“We are pleading with the state assembly to allow us continue because we are going to achieve a lot for the good of the state,” he said.
Also in a plea, another participant, Mustapha Salau, thanked the governor for the programme, saying that it would reduce youth restiveness and consumption of drugs by the youth.
When Blueprint visited the camp, over 1,470 youths were seen undergoing several trainings for the two-week Nasarawa Youth Empowerment Scheme (NAYES) programme.
