DPO escapes lynching in Zamfara

Aggrieved youths in their thousands had reportedly launched an attack on Zurmi Police Divisional office located at the headquarters of Zurmi local government area of Zamfara state on Saturday.
The youths allegedly accused the police of plotting to release detained suspected armed bandits.
The irate youths, during their mob had demanded the immediate handing over of the suspected bandits to them for a jungle justice or the alternative they should be handed over to the Army for urgent prosecution.
The irate youths were said to have accused the police of conniving with the bandits by setting them free when they were arrested without taking them to appropriate court of law for prosecution.
Blueprint reports that the DPO and some of his principal officers narrowly escaped being lynched during the protest as the whole police station was destroyed.
In addition, over ten motorcycles and one official vehicle were also burnt to ashes.
It would be recalled that, within the last three days, the bandits had attacked three districts, namely: Mashema, Birane and Kwaddi in zurmi local government in which they killed 46 people, burnt down 18 villages and rendered more than 21, 000 people, mainly women and children homeless.
When contacted, the Public Relations Officer, Muhammad Shehu confirmed the incident to newsmen, stressing that already, the suspects have been transferred to the state command headquarters in Gusau for further action
