The Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) has sanctioned 8 filling stations in Zamfara state from December last year to date.
Operations Controller in charge of Gusau DPR field office, Malam Ango Haruna, disclosed this to newsmen while inspecting some filling stations in Gusau the state capital yesterday.
He attributed the uncompromising attitudes of filling stations owners to federal government directives on petroleum supply and marketing as factors bedevilling the organisation’s regulatory exercise in the state.
“Some filling stations were caught selling above official pump price of N145 per litre, some were hoarding while some were diverting the commodity.”
He said the DPR in the state deemed it necessary not to seal any non complying filling station selling fuel above official pump price but to ensure they revert to the official pump price of N145 per litre or to be sanctioned.
He explained that some of the problems their team noticed during their operation in some filling stations in the state was overcrowding and poor arrangement by filling stations’ managers, against DPR rules and regulations on safety.
While at NNPC mega stations No 1 Gusau, the DPR controller expressed dissatisfaction over poor arrangement to satisfy the customers.
“It is unfortunate that all the two gates of the station. both entrance and exit were blocked with the vehicles and motorcycles, people were not cooperating with the security personnel at filling stations”. He said.
The controller warned stations owners in the state to always comply with the rules and regulations and urged members of the public to shun panic buying and hawking activities, adding that the department would not condone any irregular practice.
