DPR seal four filling stations, one gas outlet in Kogi

Officials of  Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) sealed four filling stations for under dispensing in Ajaokuta local government area of Kogi state.

They also closed one gas station in Lokoja for operating without license.

The Operations Controller, DPR Lokoja field office, Engineer Idris Zangi Mohammed, who led the operations during the surveillance exercise to 10 petrol stations in Ajaokuta and Lokoja over the weekend, said some of the service pumps were not accurate.

He  said the  sealed stations will remain closed until the marketers pay the penalties of N100,000 per pump to the TSA account of the federal government and present evidence of payment before the stations would be unseal for operation.

“We are out to enforce compliance on the rules and regulations guiding the sales of petroleum products in Ajaokuta and some part of Lokoja .

“We have come to realised that most of the marketers operate illegally or without valid licence, therefore we came out to ensure that they abide by the procedure in order to discourage them from cheating the general public through undue adjustment of their pumps,” he said.

The Operation Controller who lamented that some filling stations also operates restaurant within the premises of the stations , said such act is grossly against the procedure , assuring that very soon DPR will clamped down on such filling stations.

“Building or operating restaurant at the premises of the filling station or gas station is against DPR procedure and we are urging any filling stations with such business outlet to close it or we clamp down on them.

“There is a guideline that stipulated distance between the source of heat and the fuel pump. We will revisit the guideline and do the needful in the interest of safety of Nigerians citizens” he stated.
