DPR seals 20 filling stations in Nasarawa

The Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) has sealed 20 filling stations for irregularities and violation of safety rules.

This was disclosed by the Nasarawa state operations controller Abdulrahman Mohammed in an interview with newsmen in Lafia.

Abdulrahman said five of the sealed stations were located in residential areas in Lafia, the state capital and posed danger to lives and property of the people.

He said the affected filling stations were sealed between February to date, saying the agency had mapped out strategies to ensure  that filling stations that do not conform to safety standard are  closed down and their licenses  revoked.

Commenting on the re- appearance of people buying petrol in jerry cans, the controller explained that those buying might fall in the classes of saloon operators or other domestic users.

He said that the state receives about 30 trucks every day while allaying fears of scarcity of the product.

“We have enough supply to go round every day because we receive about

30 thousand trucks every day across the state. He cautioned people against panic buying adding the agency will continue to ensure availability of the product across the state.

The Lafia local government chairman of petrol tanker drivers, Awaje Danladi also allayed fears of any plan to increase the pump price of petroleum products.

Awaje said the union always ensured that way bill of every tanker carries the official price in its ticket before passing through the state or off  loading petroleum product.
