DPR urges Gombe govt to equip fire service

The Gombe state field office of Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) has called on the government of the state to device a means to decongest the Gombe bypass road leading to Biu in Borno state.

According to the controller of the Gombe DPR office Alhaji Abdullahi Abawa, congestion around the bypass road which is supposed to be free is endangering lives of innocent citizens whenever accidents occurred.

Abawa who briefed newsman following an accident involving a fuel tanker that exploded at Bomala Bridge on the bypass road on Saturday claiming about 18 lives and other valuables including houses.

He also called on the government to improved state fire service with new fighting equipment and chemicals.

Our correspondent reported that a petrol tanker lost his brake and rammed into a truck loaded with bottled water, crushing two motorcycles and two tricycles in the process.

Blueprint investigation revealed that the victims of the incident are  receiving medical attention at both the Federal Teaching Hospital and the state Specialist Hospital.
