Drama as Salami throws Magu’s lawyers out

A mild drama ensued on Monday at the venue of the ongoing presidential panel probing when head of the panel, Justice Ayo Salami, ordered two of Ibrahim Magu’s lawyer out of the venue.

Salami, Head of the panel, ordering the two lawyers that were part of the legal team of the suspended EFCC Acting Chairman out of the session, recognized only Shittu at the sitting.

Ibrahim Magu, the suspended acting chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFFC) was alleged to have mishandled recovered loot and sold seized assets to his associates; he was later arrested and whisked before the panel.

Magu is also being probed over abuse of office.

At the resumed sitting, Salami, head of the panel, Salami was quoted to have asked security operatives to walk Zainab Abiola and Aliyu Lemu, Magu’s lawyers, out of the presidential panel probe shortly after they were introduced.

Trouble shortly after Wahab Shittu, who has been appearing for Magu, stood up to introduce other members of the legal team. But, Salami who interrupted him insisted that only Shittu would be allowed to defend Magu.

The former President of the Court of Appeal thereafter directed armed security agents to bundle the lawyers out of the premises.

Magu, this medium reports was detained at the Area 10 force criminal investigation department in Abuja for 10 days before he was eventually released on bail.

He has nevertheless maintained innocence, claiming that forces opposed to his efforts in the fight against corruption are after him.
