Driver arraigned for reckless driving, death of 4

An articulated vehicle driver, Dare Paseda, has been charged before an Igbosere Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for alleged reckless driving and killing four occupants of a jeep on a highway.
Paseda, 42, whose address is unknown, is being tried for reckless driving and manslaughter.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the two-count charge.
The prosecutor, Corporal Oladejo Balogun, told the court that Paseda committed the offences on February 21 on Lekki-Epe Expressway at Ogidan Bus Stop, Sangotedo.

He alleged that the accused drove a truck with registration no. XZ 87 EPR dangerously on a public highway and collided with a Lexus jeep marked SR 629 AAA belonging to Mr. Obinna Ukawilu, killing four occupants in the jeep.

According to the prosecutor, the deceased are Precious Madu, 25; Amarachi Nwokeji, 22; Doris Nwazue, 25; all women, and a man, Emeka Odoemenen, 35.

Balogun said the offences violated Sections 19 and 20 of the Road Traffic Laws of Lagos State 2012.
The Magistrate, Miss O. Fowowe, granted the accused bail in the sum of N300,000 with two sureties in like sum.
She adjourned the case to March 26 for mention.
