Driver in court for sexually assaulting minor

A 35-year-old driver, Isaac Obasi, was yesterday arraigned before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court for allegedly sexually assaulting an 11-year-old girl.
The Magistrate, Mrs B.O. Osunsanmi, who did not take plea of the accused, however, ordered that he should be remanded at Kirikiri Prisons pending advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP). Prosecutor, ASP Ezekiel Ayorinde, told the court that the accused, is being tried for indecent treatment of a child, committed the offence in January at his residence in Ilasamaja Area of Lagos.
He said the accused allegedly assaulted the girl by fingering her private parts. “The accused called the girl into his room, but she refused and he had dragged her inside the room. He started touching and sucking her breasts and also inserted his fingers in the girl’s private parts.
“The girl shouted and he quickly covered her mouth and threatened to kill her if she continues to shout,” the prosecutor said. Ayorinde further stated that the accused was about to insert his sexual organ in the girl when he heard the voice of the girl’s mother who had just returned home.
He said the accused gave the minor N50 to buy biscuits and warned her not to tell her mother, however, when the mother noticed the way her daughter was walking and questioned her, she told her mother what the accused did to her.
The prosecutor said the offence contravened Section 135 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 (Revised). The case was adjourned till June 11, for mention.
