Driver in trouble for reckless driving, manslaughter

A driver of an articulated vehicle, Oluwaloseyi Ojoye, has been charged before an Igbosere Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for alleged reckless driving and killing of a 27-year-old man.

Ojoye, 21, residing at Adatan, Abeokuta, is facing charges of reckless driving and manslaughter.
The Prosecutor, Sergeant Philip Osijale, told the court that Ojoye committed the offences on March 11, 2014, on the Lekki-Epe Expressway by Ajah/Addo Junction, near Lagos.

He alleged that the accused drove an Iveco Tipper truck with registration No: DED 136 XA, dangerously on a public highway, thereby hitting one Wahabu Sikiru, who subsequently died following injuries he sustained.
Osijale said the offences violated Sections 19 and 20 of the Road Traffic Laws of Lagos State, 2012.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the two-count charge.
The Magistrate, Mrs. A. Botoku, granted the accused bail in the sum of N100, 000 with two sureties in like sum.
She adjourned the case to April 11 for mention.
