DSS action disrespectful, violation of our law

An Abuja-based legal practitioner, Danshitta Shittu Saheed, has described as dastardly action exhibited by men of State Security Service in the court premises on Friday.

In an exclusive chat with Blueprint, the legal practitioner said what the DSS did trying to re-arrest Omoyele Sowore and Bakare, while still standing trial before Justice Ijeoma Ojukwu amount to desecration of the temple of justice.

He said, “Trying to arrest  Omoyele Sowore barely 24 hours after his release in the open court is a condemnable one and a disrespect to the Rule of Law and the court.

“Community reading of section 43 (1) and (2) of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act 2015 makes it clear that even warrant of arrest cannot be executed in the open court,”

Danshitta who frowned at  the video clip of the incident in circulation, added that reports from colleagues who were in court clearly showed that it was indeed effected in the open court.

“I insist that that action is a clear violation of the above stated provision of the Law”

“With what happened on Friday the 6th December 2019, there is now uncertainty to the freedom and Rights of individuals in this country and it’s a clear danger to the democracy we claimed to be practicing in this part of the world,” he held further.

Danshitta nevertheless advocated investigation into the unfortunate incident, saying that individuals involved in it should be brought to book, not only to forestall future occurrence, but to also preserve the independence of Judiciary.
