Eagles inch up in FIFA rankings

Many Nigerians will heave a sigh of relief as the Super Eagles labouriously climbed two places up in the latest FIFA world rankings to 45th, sliding into 6th  place in Africa.

The latest world rankings released yesterday by  FIFA must have put the heart-warming draw  with Mexico in Georgia, the United States, into consideration and must have done a lot of good to the Stephen Keshi-led, as they moved from the previous 47th position.
The Elephants of Cote D’Ivoire are still the No.1 team in Africa despite losing to Nigeria at the last AFCON in South Africa as they moved up three places to 21in the world. Egypt is down to 24th and second in Africa.

Algeria, Ghana, Cape Verde, Tunisia, Cameroon, Guinea and Mali make up the top 10 sides in Africa.
World Cup defending champions, La Rojas of Spain, are still the No1 in the world according to the rankings, while Germany and Portugal fill the second and third positions, respectively.
Iran, whom Nigeria will play their first Group F game with at the World Cup  are ranked at 37th, while South American power house Argentina is ranked at 6th while Bosnia-Herzegovina are 25th on the log.
