Easter: Clergy advises preachers on materialism

As the world prepares for Easter celebration, the Bishop of the Church of Nigeria Anglican Communion, Uyo Diocese, Rt Rev Asuquo Antai, has warned Christian preachers against preaching falsehood for material gains.

Bishop Antai, enjoined men of God to place more emphasis on preaching the teachings of Christianity as handed down to the apostles during the pentecost.

He asserted that the new generation preachers consider their private pockets while delivering massages from the altar of God than preaching the basic biblical truth.

The clergy said returning to the basic gospel truth of the Christian faith is the way to solve the catalogs of problems confronting the society.

“How many churches have genuine altar call to surrender their lives to Christ . Today, the message is all about riches and money making motivational preaching to amass wealth rather than inspire people to giving their lives to Jesus Christ.”

He said “though the activities to mark the dead of Christ was not observed in the early church because of constant persecution but the spirit of the season was there with the church until the proper time “

He lambasted some Christians who refused to observe Easter describing them as ignorant of the truth.

“Easter is about God, man and salvation as God sent a Redeemer to rescue man. We are celebrating victory in view of our expected redemption when Jesus would come.”

He explained that the Pentecost has its root from Easter and must be celebrated by all not only for Catholics and Anglicans.

“Those benefiting from the Grace of God should reciprocate by acknowledging the basic truth of their faith”
