Security chicks has been intensified in Jos the Plateau Capital as part of measures aimed at ensuring trouble free Good Friday and Ester Celebration.
Our correspondent reports that temporary checkpoints with men of the STF, conducting stop and search were noticed in many places and roads leading to worshiping centres.
The STF had in a statement issued by its spokesman, Captain Ikedichi Iweha, stating that “in a bid to maintain law and order, security agencies would increase temporary checkpoints in both Plateau and neighbouring Bauchi states throughout the festive period as well as intensify vehicular and tricycle search at all checkpoints across the states.”
It said the aim was to ensure a hitch-free Easter celebration.
The statement further stated that the “use of fireworks, bangers, and burning of tires in the state during the festive period would not be tolerated.”
“Religious leaders are enjoined to sensitise their adherents and followers, particularly the youths not to engage in acts that would disrupt the peace that is currently being enjoyed.”
The statement also called on the people of the two states to report any suspicious persons or objects to security agencies as well as warn their wards against picking objects on the streets.
It added that “STF Commander, Major General David Enetie, through this medium calls on the good people of both states to continue to pray for lasting and sustained peace in the state and country at large. He also calls on all to emulate the virtues of love and sacrifice which the season represents and as exemplified by Christ.”
