Easter: Women in Calabar donate to orphanage

The Association of Professional Women Engineers of Nigeria (APWEN) has donated food stuff to the Uwanse Orphanage Home in Calabar as part of Easter celebration.

The items include cartons of indomie noodles; create of eggs, groundnut oil, bag of gari and toiletries.

Mrs Justina Ulafor, the financial secretary of the association presented the items Monday in Calabar.

She said the donation is to show love and care to the less privileged during the period of Easter when families are celebrating the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Ulafor said the items would go a long way in adding nutritional value to the health of the children.

“We are professional women engineers and at the same time mothers, we have that sense of responsibility to see that our children and even those in the orphanage are not left out in this season of love and celebration.

“It is our responsibility to reach out to the less privileged also and that is why we are here. For us, this Easter period is a season of sharing love; most importantly to come and share with these motherless babies.

“Aside donations to orphanage homes, we also embark on advocacy visits to secondary schools to encourage the female students to be dedicated in science subjects and to study engineering.

“We reach out to them because we are privileged to be female engineers and we want them to also take engineering as a career,’’ she said.

Ulafor stated that most female students run from sciences and said it is the duty of the association to encourage females to study engineering at tertiary level. (NAN)
