Ebonyi ALGON backs law against open grazing

Chairmen of the 13 local government Council areas and the 64 Development Center coordinators of Ebonyi state have openly endorsed the law against open grazing.

Endorsement of the law was necessitated by the killing of about 25 persons by suspected herders in Nkalaha, Obegu, Amezu, Umuhuali, Egedegede communities in Ishielu LGA of the state.

Chairman of the All Local Government chairmen who also doubles as the chairman of Ohaozara LGA in Ebonyi state, Mrs Chinyere Iyioku, after a joint meeting with the coordinators of the 64 development center expressed sadness over the killings.

Reading out the resolution of the meeting, ALGON public relations officer and chairman of Izzi local government area, Paul Nwogha said, “Here with you this evening are the 13 local government chairmen of the state and 64 development centre coordinators of Ebonyi state as well.

“We have met today and we are here to present to you the general public with tears on what happened in the three communities in Ishielu local government area of the state on Monday this week.

“It is totally condemnable where over 25 persons were killed in Obegu and Nkalaha communities of Ishielu local government area of Ebonyi state by suspected herdsmen.

“We condemn with strong words that from today henceforth, that we support the law against open grazing in Ebonyi state. If you want to operate open grazing in Ebonyi state, you should be ready to meet with us because both the Development Centre Coordinators and the local government Chairmen of Ebonyi state are already on watch to make sure that what happened in Ishielu does not repeat itself.”
