Ebonyi to hold LGA elections in April

 

Ebonyi state Independent Electoral Commission (EBSIEC) Wednesday released notice for 2020 local government areas elections in the state.

The release stated that the elections is slated to hold  Saturday, 25th April, 2020 at the 13 LGAs and 1,785 wards in the state.

This was contained in a document published and signed by chairman of EBSIEC, Mr Chukwuemeka Oji, secretary of the commission.

The document captioned notice of Election further stated that nomination papers are to be delivered to the commission’s headquarters in Abakaliki and also explained that publication of the notice of the election would be published in each of the 13 local government councils of the state.

It reads in part:“Further take notice that the date of elections (Day of polls) is

Saturday, 25th day of April2020, throughout Ebonyi state, and that

nomination papers are to be delivered at the commissions headquarters,

No. 1 Onwe Road , Abakaliki, Ebonyi State.”

“Also take notice that it is further published in each of the thirteen

(13) local government areas and one thousand seven hundred and

eighty-five electoral wards in Ebonyi state that elections are to be

held.”

The EBSIEC noted that the election is “pursuant to the provision of

the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999, (as

amended), the Ebonyi State Independent Electoral Commission Law, 2001,

as amended, and the Ebonyi State Electoral and Related Matters Law,

No. 001 of 2017, as amended.”

Ebonyi state House of Assembly had recently passed

amended  law as it concerns tenure of the local government council

chairmen from three-year tenure to two-year tenure.
