Ebonyi: Umahi seeks collaboration of NYSC members on agricultural production

Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi state has
urged National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members in the state to collaborate with his administration in enhancing agricultural production in the state.

Umahi made the plea Monday at Afikpo during the closing ceremony of the 2019 Batch, Stream 1 NYSC orientation course.

He urged them to assist farmers especially in the rural areas to achieve the goal.

The governor said agriculture was the main stay of the state’s economy as the people are predominantly farmers, noting that their
services would enhance the farmers’ capabilities for increased crop yield.

“Most of the communities are still developing, so assist them in any way you can especially in agriculture for speedy development.

“Posterity will forever remember you for this as the people you are going to meet are very industrious and hospitable,” he said.

He appealed to the corps members to contribute in lifting the state to the next level of development by embarking on meaningful community development projects that touch lives.

“I must commend your predecessors for printing their names in gold as far as community development services were concerned.

“I therefore urge you to accept your postings to any part of Ebonyi in good faith, strive to understand the people, appreciate and cherish
their culture and tradition,” he said.

Umahi warned corps members against embarking on unnecessary and unauthorised journeys which had caused untold sufferings and pains on parents when they turn sour.

“You should always travel with proper permission from the State Coordinator of the NYSC when the need arises,” he said.

NYSC state Coordinator, Mrs Ann Ibe, said corps members exhibited a very high sense of discipline, commitment, dedication to duty and team spirit during their stay in the camp.

“They actively participated enthusiastically in all camp activities which include paramilitary drills, man  ‘o’ war and leadership training, professional orientation, sporting activities among others.

“We have painstakingly posted them to the 13 Local Government Areas (LGA) of the state with consideration to the four critical areas of
the economy namely education, rural infrastructure, health and agriculture.

“In view of this, 80 per cent of the members have been posted to schools with emphasis on rural posting where their services are needed
most.”
