Edo 2020: I can’t be intimidated, Obaseki declares

The Edo state Governor, Godwin Obaseki has said he cannot be cowed by anyone to abandon his re-election in 2020.

Obaseki and former governor of Edo state, now National Chairman of the APC, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, are at loggerheads over the local politics in the state.

The goevrno, who disclosed this during the 2019 Edo Women Summit tagged: Alaghodaro, said: “As a government, we are not afraid of anybody. Never again will anyone come and harass the people.

&They said we are mosquitoes, we will show that mosquitoes will cause malaria and if you are not careful, malaria will kill you.&

The governor’s remark is coming amidst unending rift between him and his predecessor, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole.

The former governor, who is said to have chosen Obaseki as his replacement, had reportedly said: &You don’t respond to the bruises of mosquito,& when he was asked to comment on the face-off between himself and his successor.

Continuing at the women summit, Obaseki said &Alaghodaro& is the celebration of his administration’s 3rd year anniversary.

According to him, &it is to reflect on the journey of the last one year and project for the future. You (women) have joined us to open the political space of Edo. Edo belongs to everybody and not a few segments.

“Women constitute 50 per cent of voting population in Edo. The achievements we have were made possible by women in the area of child rights, women rights and health.”

Earlier, the governor’s wife, Betsy Obaseki, said under the administration, the state has, “produced one of the best performing governments.”

She said: “we are here to celebrate our husbands, good governance and all women in government. Last year, the governor gave us (women) 18 Special Assistants on gender across the 18 local government areas.  He has now promised Senior Special Assistants.”

The governor’s wife further advocated for special recognition for women in the governor’s re-election campaign.
