Edo Assembly: I “ll stop Abuja politicians – Obaseki

Edo State governor, Godwin Obaseki, Thursday said that some politicians who had in time past joined in the struggle to entrench “Let the people lead” mantra in Edo state, now seek to work against the people.

“Let the people lead” was a major campaign slogan against opposition parties during Comrade Adams Oshiomhole’s tenure which according to him, implies that the power resides on the people to elect whoever they want.

Obaseki and his predecessor, Oshiomhole rift have deepened after nine Assembly members-elect out of  24 were secretly inaugurated midnight on June 17.

15 members-elect who reportedly fled the State over alleged insecurity of their lives have petitioned the National Assembly even as the federal lawmakers have set up a committee to investigate their allegations.

The governor who spoke at a solidarity rally held for his administration in Benin city also dared those he termed “Abuja politicians” to take over the state if they can.

He said those whose intent is to split the State Assembly cannot stop him.

The governor said some “Abuja politicians” are already heating up the polity in the state with intent to  pull him out.

According to him, “I want to assure you that what has been happening in Edo state for the past several months will not distract us. We will continue to be focused.

“I did not change cars; I did not buy an official car for myself until after 18 months because we did not have the money and the little money I had, I felt should be used for the people and not the governor.

“I want to leave you with these words that those people who are parading themselves as Abuja politicians to tell people from outside to come and invade Edo, split our house of assembly, we are waiting for you.

“We have no fear at all, we are resolved that we will continue to do what is best for our state and country. We have no doubt that we are on the right path”, Obaseki said.
