Piqued by graft and other social vices in the nation’s public and private institutions, the Edo state chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has advocated for anti-corruption messages during church services as a means of promoting ethics and values in the society.
This was just as the Christian leaders pledged to roll out measures to monitor elected leaders for accountability.
Edo state CAN chairman, Rev Oyerude Kure, stated this during the ‘South-South Dialogue with Stakeholders on National Ethics and Integrity Policy’ held in Benin City.
The event was rganized by the Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission (ICPC) in partnership with the National Orientation Agency (NOA).
The CAN chairman, who was represented by Conchest Iriagbe, an official of the body said: “Our success should not be measured by the money we have in the bank.
“We are going to partner with ICPC and interrogate our elected leaders. And we will ensure that the issue of corruption is talked about every Sunday service.”
Also, the representative of ICPC chairman, Mrs. Grace Chinda said the national policy was a child of necessity, adding that it seeks to promote societal value and voice participation.
Chida, who is the South-South Representative on ICPC board said: “The policy is in recognition of the pivotal role value re-orientation plays in the fight against corruption.”
