Edo community honours Makava

A prominent technocrat in the Afowa Kingdom, Chief Daniel Makava, has been honoured with the chieftaincy title of Olunevbo by the traditional ruler of the community, HRH Jakhomi Alelumhe Imokhai IV.

Chief Daniel Makava, who is the Head, Consultancy and Extension Services at the Nigerian Building and Road Research Institute [NBRRI] received the honour amidst fanfare and celebrations at the palace of the traditional ruler.

Speaking at the occasion, the traditional ruler said the recipient was honoured due to his excellent qualities and hardwork in promoting the culture and good image of the Afowa community.

The monarch urged the recipient to see the honour as a spring board to spur him into greater achievements for the community and the nation.

Responding, Chief Makava, who was obviously elated, thanked the community and the traditional ruler for the honour and promised to do more to justify the confidence reposed on him in the near future.

He said the award came as a total surprise to him but promised to use the honour judiciously to impact on the community.

“I have been engaged in the serve to humanity for several years but I never knew it will result into an honour. I feel elated, I feel honoured and I feel overwhelmed.

“Like it was said, a prophet is usually not honored in his place of birth but we are all witnesses to the fact that the saying has been discarded and we are being honoured today by my own community. I think it is something extraordinary,” he said.

Chief Makava urged the youth of the area to be focused and level headed in their pursuits, and to remember that whatever they do today will invariably impact on their future.
