Chairman of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Edo State Governorship Campaign Council, Governor Nyesom Wike Tuesday said nobody can intimidate members of the Peoples democratic Party (PDP), assuring that Godwin Obaseki will return on September 19.
Wike stated this during the inauguration of the 92-man campaign council at the PDP national headquarters in Abuja in reaction to Kano state governor, Umar Ganduje’s comment on Monday that his party (APC) will keep Wike in isolation centre during the Edo governorship poll.
Responding, Wike said, “Nobody can intimidate us in this election. Yesterday I was told and today I read on the pages of newspapers that one Governor Ganduje said he was going to isolate me until the election is over. If Nigeria is supposed to be a country, who is supposed to be isolated?”
“What he was telling Nigerians is; look in this election, we shall make sure that Edo people come out to vote and even if they vote, we will not allow them to protect and defend their votes,” Wike added.
Continuing he said: “Edo people, now they have told you that they will not allow you to vote and even if you vote, they will not allow you to protect and defend your votes. It is a direct challenge to all of you leaders here from Edo state, because we members of the campaign council cannot vote because we did not register to vote in Edo state.
“To the security agencies, any attempt to rig this election in Edo state, we will all know whether it is better for us to remain here or not. Because Edo people have spoken and it is very clear. Let nobody make any attempt, Edo state has come back to the PDP.”
Earlier, PDP national chairman, Prince Uche Secondus had called on President Muhammadu Buhari to rise to the challenge of leadership and defend Nigeria’s unity by conducting a free, fair and credible election in Edo.
He cautioned that the federal government should stop the use of military and other security operatives in abuse of electoral rules.
