Edo: Gunmen kill 2 policemen, kidnap deputy gov’s brother

Gunmen suspected to be kidnappers have reportedly taken Fredrick Shaibu, the younger brother of Edo state deputy governor, Hon. Phillip Shaibu, hostage.

Fredrick was said to have been kidnapped at about 7.30am on Tuesday at Aruogba area,  Iriri.

He was said to be taking his kids to school when the gunmen struck.

A witness who craved for anonymity said the hoodlums however left the children behind.

According to him, “I believe these boys came through Ogba river because they took the man (victim) on foot into the bush towards the river.”

The State Police spokesman, SP.  Chidi Nwabuzor, said he was yet to be briefed

There have been an upsurged in crimes in the state after hoodlums hijacked  the #EndSARS protest against police brutality.

The development came less than 24 hours after gunmen killed two policemen and a civilian during an attack on Igueben police station in Igueben local government area of the State.

The attackers were said to have stormed the police facility on Monday night with dynamites and accompanied with sporadic gunshots.

Security adviser to the local government chairman, Hon. John Ogbomo, said: “The attack lasted for over two hours”.

Ogbomo who expressed concern over the motive behind the attack, sympathised with the victims.

The state commissioner of police, Mr. Johnson Kokomo, confirmed the police station attack, adding that “one of the hoodlums was gunned down by gallant officers”.

Kokomo however, said two officers sustained injures and have been taken to hospital for treatment.
