Scores of Libya deportees who hailed from Edo State have urged the State government to include them in the proposed 200,000 jobs on offer.
This was just as the returnees also recounts their ordeal in Libya adding that “we went through hell in their detention facilities.”
The group, mainly males claimed that they were among dozens of deportees to the country between 11 and 16 May, 2017.
Spokesperson for the returnees, Lucky Igue who led others in a rally in Benin City appealed to the government for empowerment and support, because according to him, the deportees has nothing to gather for themselves.
He said: “we suffered inhuman treatment in Libya prison were some of us spent two years. We entered the journey because of suffering back home.”
The President, Initiative for Youth Awareness and Migration, Immigration, Development and Integration (IYAMIDR), Comrade Okoduwa Solomon who joined in the rally appealed for a sustainable means of livelihood for the group.
Okoduwa said it has become imperative to draw government attention to the challenges faced by the returnees.
According to him, they (returnees) are in Nigeria. They need the assistance; especially when the government is talking of creating 200,000 jobs.
The IYAMIDR president further said he had earlier written to the state government to train about 150 Libya returnees in agriculture and other skill acquisitions as part of the process of reintegration.
