Edo: NYSC boss seeks protection for corps members

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Director-General, Brigadier General Shuaibu Ibrahim, has appealed to all stakeholders in the forthcoming gubernatorial election in Edo state to provide adequate security for the corps members that would participate in the election as electoral officers.

He said corps members are national assets contributing their quota towards national development which should be given public support.

A statement Thursday by the director, Press and Public Relations, Mrs. Adenike Adeyemi said  General Ibrahim stated this during a courtesy visit to the Oba of Benin Kingdom, Omo N’Oba N’ Edo Uku Akpolokpolo Ewuare II Ogidigan in his palace.

The NYSC boss appreciated the monarch for his support for corp members in Benin Kingdom and NYSC sacheme in Edo state and added that the NYSC management places high priority on the welfare and security of its corp members.

“I want to further solicit for the support of his majesty on the forthcoming election so that the good people of Edo state will see our corp members as their children.

“We want to ensure that our corps members are safe as we look forward to a hitch-free election,” the DG stated.

In his response, the Oba of Benin commended General Ibrahim for the visit and also for his giant strides since he assumed duty as the 18th director-general of NYSC.

He said the introduction of NYSC scheme has contributed immensely to national unity and socio-economic development of the country.

The traditional ruler added that the deployment policy of NYSC has afforded many youth the opportunity of knowing other places around the country outside their places of birth which has enabled them to learn their cultures.

The monarch appealed to other stakeholders to ensure that corp members serve their fatherland in safe environments, while he promised his continuous support for the NYSC scheme.
