Edo: Obaseki, architect of attack on Oshiomhole’s residence – Aide

A witness who craved for anonymity said there was tension in the area after rival thugs emerged to confront the anti-Oshiomhole group.

According to the witness, “it took a combine effort of soldiers and police operatives to disperse the thugs.”

However, the Chief Press Secretary to the National party chairman, Simon Ebegbulem alleged that the attackers were mobilised by governor Godwin Obaseki .

Simon said the attack is part of the governor’s desperate bid to secure the party’s ticket for second term,  even as he claimed the attack was plotted at the last State Executive Council meeting

However, the Special adviser to the governor on Media, Mr. Crusoe Osagie said: “the Edo State government has absolutely no knowledge of the purported attack on the person of the residence of the National chairman.

“We have also reached out to the police and they affirmed they do not know of such attack,” he said.

The State Police commissioner Danmallam Abubakar also denied knowledge of the attack.

However, Oshiomhole who addressed some supporters on Saturday night urged them to ensure “there is peace in the country and Edo state”.

Oshiomhole said: “anything that happens anywhere, they say will say President. So, we have to help him, we have to help to secure the whole country and in our state.,

“If other people are beating drums of war, we will share the powder of peace.

“In moments like this, it is not madness for madness because many of you I see here, in 2007, you were already strong.

“And in 2012 during my second term, you were there. In 2016, many of you were deployed as agents; I used to call you guys our infantry division who protected our votes even when we were in opposition when the federal government was PDP.

“So, What God has willed no man can change it,” Oshiomhole said.
