Edo: Obaseki rejects Ruga settlement

Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo state has assured that he will not cede the poeples’ rights and land to anybody for Rugar settlement adding, that “our programmes as a sovereign state do not run on the back of any external entity”.

Obaseki said the State had a well thought out and elaborate plan for agricultural development both in crop production and animal husbandry which according to him, has nothing to do with Ruga settlement for herdsmen.

The Governor in a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Communication, Mr. Crusoe Osagie  said, “the plan was developed long before Ruga Settlement was muted.

“Obaseki  will continue to put the interest of Edo people first in all his policies and programmes, as he has demonstrated in the past two years and seven months.

“And in all the agricultural programmes being executed by the Obaseki administration, the safety, security and prosperity of our people are top priority and non-negotiable.”

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) had amongst others said: “it is alleged and feared that the APC government of Godwin Obaseki has indeed conceded land to the federal government for ruga pilot program.”
