Edo: PCN raid 256 medicine shops over unethical practice


As part of efforts to ensure ethical standards in quality medicines distribution value chain, the Pharmacists Council of Nigeria (PCN) has raided 256 patient medicines vendors in Edo state.
The registrar of PCN, Pharm. Elijah Mohammed, who disclosed this at a Press Conference said the shops were sealed for violating laid down guidelines.


He stated that the council also sanctioned 84  pharmacies for infractions, and issued 22 compliance directives to premises for poor documentation. 

Pharm. Stephen Esumobi, the council’s Director of enforcement addressed jounarlists on behalf of the registrar in Benin City,  the Edo state capital. 
The registrar said the raid was part of the federal government’s policy direction aimed at improved standards of practice in line with global best practice. 


According to him,  “Our observation from the field in Edo State revealed that most  owners  of  Patent Medicine Vendors in the State are either unregistered or registered but operating far beyond their approved scope.
“The PCN will continue to ensure provision of safe, effective and quanlity medicines down the distribution chain.:
