Edo police nab 3 soldiers for alleged kidnapping, robbery

Operatives of Edo State Police Command on Sunday confirmed the arrest of  three soldiers and a civilian for alleged kidnapping and armed robbery.

The  gang members were  reported to have kidnapped a classroom teacher in Fugar, Mrs. Catherine Izuagie, on September 9, 2019 and released  after ransom was collected.

The suspects were said to have been on police “wanted  list” for several kidnappings in Fugar and Agenebode amongst other communities in the State. 

Edo state police spokesman, DSP Chidi Nwabuzo, said the three soldiers and civilian are currently under interrogated by Superintendent Richard Balogun,  the state command head of SARS.

The soldiers in police custody  were identified as Private Evans Isibor 15/NA/73/1529 of the Artillery Brigade, Owerri on a special duty in Maiduguri, Borno State,  Corporal Collins Ameh 13NA/70/4960 of 3 Division, Jos and Lance Corporal Balogun Taiwo 13/NA/69/0369 of 35 Battalion, Katsina.

The Civilian suspect according to police source who was arrested alongside the soldiers was identified as  Goodluck Igbinebor.

Igbinebor was said to be a member of the gang.

The gang reportedly a victim snatched  Toyota Voltron car on October 30, 2019  and  kidnapped one Mr. Joseph Otono in Fugar, Etsako Central Local Government Area of the State.

They were however apprehended by policemen at  Ehor, Uhunmwode local government headquarters while driving in the voltron car. 

The soldier and his civilian accomplices now at large were said to have also collected ransom to effect the release of the kidnapped man.
