Edo police recover 120 fire-arms, arrest 5

 

Operatives of Edo state police Command yesterday stated that it had recovered 120 assorted guns and 154 live cartridges in its mop-up exercise.
The state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Johnson Kokomu, who disclosed at a media briefing in Benin City, said five suspects were also apprehended during the exercise.
A breakdown of the recoveries showed that 15 pump action, nine AK-47, 23 locally made cut-to-size, 38 Dane guns amongst others were paraded before journalists.
Kokumo said the exercise was in compliance with the Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, directive to all state commands to mop-up illegal arms and ammunition in circulation.
The CP said some of the recovered firearms are prohibited and not to be seen with private individuals and cooperate entities.
“From investigation, we find out that cooperate bodies apply for firearms, they thereafter go ahead and acquire arms they were not licensed to possess,” he said.
Continuing, Kokumo disclosed that the command has also arrested one David Ajiri for conspiring with others still at large to rob one Jackson Okuomoise of his Lexus SUV and other valuables.
The suspected robbers according to the CP abducted the victim’s friend, Onyeka Uche, shot him and left the victim for dead.
