Edo: Residents rush to beat curfew deadline

Residents in Benin City, Edo state capital, Monday rushed home in order not to be caught in the web of the dust to dawn curfew imposed by the State government.

Governor Godwin Obaseki  in a broadcast on Sunday said: “I have imposed a dusk to dawn curfew in the State for 10 days  in order to ensure strict compliance with measures to curb the spread of coronavirus pandemic.

“Security agencies are mandated to enforce full compliance with this curfew,” he said.

According to an update of the National Center for Disease and Control (NCDC), there are 15 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Edo state, with seven discharged and one death.

Blueprint observed that security operatives  began the enforcement of the government  order  at  3rd junction by Sokponba road  and Mission Road by New benin market at about 6.PM.  on Monday.

Traders selling essential commodities around the areas were forcefully evicted; even as many vehicles drove against traffic apparently in a bid to beat the deadline.

Besides, many commercial drivers were seen flouting the government directives on sitting arrangement of 5 and 3 passengers each for commercial bus and taxi respectively.
