Edo: Sheriff ’s faction rejects PDP amnesty

Loyalists of former National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Edo state, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff , has rejected the amnesty off er extended to it by the Senator Ahmed Makarfi -led caretaker committee A leader of the group and representative of Egor/IkpobaOkha Federal Constituency, Hon. Ehizogie Agbonayinma, disclosed this during a stakeholders meeting of PDP in Benin City, the state capital. Spokesman for the PDP, Dayo Adeyeye, had said that the party would grant amnesty to Sheriff and his supporters. He had disclosed the off er in reaction to the Supreme Court sacking of Sheriff as caretaker chairman of the party and affi rmation of Ahmed Makarfi .

However, while fi elding questions from reporters at the stakeholders meeting, Agbonayinma said Sheriff and his loyalists were not on trial. “You can’t just say; come and take amnesty, for what? You can only give amnesty to a militant or someone who have committed crime. In this context, amnesty does not arise. And that is the impunity we are talking about. “Sheriff was used and dump by PDP. Th ey begged him to organise the party. But his sin is that he said let hand this party back to the grassroots.”
