Edo varsity refutes closure report

Management of Edo University, Iyamho has described as fake news, speculations that the Nigeria Universities Commission (NUC) had withdrawn its operating license over issues bordering on alleged ownership dispute.

The school said the institution is a property of the Edo state government, established by law passed by the Edo state Assembly and signed into law by the executive governor.

Registrar of the institution, Dr Isoken Ogboro in a statement said “Edo University was given recognition by the NUC as the 41st state owned university in Nigeria in 2016”.

Ogboro, who urged members of the public to disregard the speculations pointed out that there is no dispute over the ownership of the university.

She said, “the University is running. In fact, admission for the 2019/2020 Academic Session is currently ongoing. Prospective applicants are advised to visit the University website”.
