Edo varsity rewards best graduating student with N5m

The management of Edo University, Iyamho in Edo State has pledged the sum of N5 million prize for best graduating students in entrepreneurial business ideas.

The largesse according to the Vice chancellor of the University, Engr. Prof. Emmanuel Aluyor is a set goal of the institution to enable “graduands go out to apply the knowledge and skills they have acquired while in school”.

Aluyor who disclosed this during the maiden edition of the institution’s pre-convocation media briefing also said: “the goal is that students will graduate with entrepreneurial skills that would empower them to be employers of labour”.

“The varsity council has approved 100 scholarships each year to indigent students and five  undergraduate full scholarships for best applicants to Edo university irrespective of their State of origin”.

Aluyor further disclosed that 50 graduands  found in character and learning would be awarded the university’s degree in their various discipline on Saturday.

A breakdown of the figures showed that  five students graduated with first class honours, 26 students bagged second class  (upper division), 16 students had second class (lower division) while three students earned third class.

VC explained that the graduands had been found worthy in character and learning by the university’s management.

He said Godwin Emiefele, Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) will on Friday  deliver the convocation lecture titled: “The Role of Monetary Policy: Towards Economic Growth in Nigeria” .

Aluyor also said Governor Obaseki has approved the appointment of Chairman, caverton offshore Support Group,  Mr. Aderemi Makanjuola as first Chancellor of the University.
