EFCC Ibadan zone recovers N277m, arrests 195

Th e Ibadan zonal offi ce of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, (EFCC), has recovered N277.9 million and arrested 195 suspects between March and August this year. EFCC Deputy Zonal Head, Kazeem Oseni, who made this known yesterday at a press conference, said 431 cases were reported to the offi ce within the same period.

According to him, “Th e Ibadan zone has taken a leap off her previous achievements with a recovery of N277,931,341. 31, against the N57milion the zone recovered last year.” He said 50 of the cases were currently at various levels in courts while investigations into other cases were on-going and the suspects would be charged to court as soon as they are concluded. Th e zonal headquarters which began operation in March 2016, Oseni said had prevalent cases in the zone as Internet fraud, land and bank fraud as well as land disputes. He said the fi ght against graft was not a task the commission can surmount single-handedly and called on the media to collaborate more to make the fi ght a success. “It is imperative for us to come together like this to bridge any information gap about the progress of the anti-graft war… Let me use this opportunity to enjoin all and sundry to buy into the fi ght against graft. “We need the support of all stakeholders. Th e media, no doubt, needs to prop up this message by informing the public adequately about our activities and urge them to report cases of corruption to the EFCC promptly,” Oseni stated.
