The former Minister of National Planning, Prof. Abubakar Suleiman, yesterday, vowed that no amount of ‘hatched or cooked fallacies’ will distract him from pursuing his governorship ambition.
Suleiman, who served under former President Goodluck Jonathan, is one of the few members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kwara State that have indicated their intention to contest the 2019 governorship election in the state.
The former minister alongside side a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Mr. Dele Belgore, are standing trial before Justice Rilwan Aikawa over the N450 million money laundering charge filed against them by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
Sulaiman in a statement he issued in Abuja asked those who are banking on his trial to wait for the outcome of the judgment, adding that he was not perturbed by his prosecution.
The statement read: “I have decided not to dwell on my travail at the EFCC on the above subject matter that has resurfaced on Kwara PDP social media platforms shortly after the news of my gubernatorial aspiration greeted the air.
“However, my reservation became necessary because the case is still ongoing at the Federal High Court, Lagos and any reaction may be prejudice.
“Nonetheless, the EFCC matter has taken no sleep out of my eyes because I know I have not taken a dime from the said fund and the key party stakeholders are aware of how it was disbursed and utilized for election purposes.
“Therefore, whosoever is still in doubt of my innocence or deliberately decided to spread falsehood for personal or political reasons, should not only wait for the pronouncement of the judiciary but also await the judgement of the most high God.
“At this juncture, l wish to state that no amount of hatched or cooked fallacies will distract me from pursuing my political ambition. I remain resolute, focused and committed to the course of fighting to actualise a better and prosperous Kwara of our dream”.
