Effium crisis: Umahi orders arrest of council boss, legislator

Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi state Monday ordered the arrest of the chairman of Ohaukwu local government area, Mr Clement Oda and the member representing Ohaukwu North state Constituency, Mr Chinedu Awo and six other persons.

Their arrest was necessitated by the renewed hostilities in Ezza Effium and Effium communities and the arrested persons are from the communities.

The governor issued the order during a meeting by some stakeholders of Effium and Ezza Effium at Ecumenical Centre, Abakaliki.

Gov. Umahi who did not hide his anger over the lingering crisis ordered the arrest of the spokesperson of Effium, Dr James Agina and declared the spokesperson of Ezza extraction, Mr Titus Nworie wanted.

Also, he announced the suspension of all political appointees from Ezza Effium who were present at the meeting and directed the vice chairman of Ohaukwu to immediately take over the administration of the local government.

Meanwhile, the governor said he called the meeting in order to appeal to the warring communities for the last time and stated that he was ready to ask the federal government to deploy troops to the area if they refuse to heed to his appeal.
