EIA: Enang tasks FG on contracting firms

The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Niger Delta Affairs, Sen. Ita Enang, has urged the federal government to ensure that contracting firms are held accountable on environmental impact assessment before being allowed to commence on any project.

Enang made the call at the commissioning of an erosion project at Nduotong Oku in Uyo local government area of Akawa Ibom state, constructed by the Ecological Fund Office on Sunday.

The presidential aide observed that the erosion disaster in Nduotong was not natural but arose as a result of excavated laterites in the community for Ekom Iman, Ekid Itam and Itam junction road constructions projects without remedial measures.

Enang, who initiated and got the federal government approval on the project, noted that there was always provision for obtaining laterites on the road construction contract.

He commended the Secretary to Government of the Federation and the Permanent Secretary, Ecological Fund Office for their efforts on the project.

The Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Sen. Godsdwill Akpabio, who commissioned the project, congratulated Enang for his initiative, which has brought succour to the people of Nduotong Oku.

Earlier, the paramount ruler of the community, Chief Enefiok Samuel, commended President Muhammadu Buhari for approving the project.
