Eid-el-Fitr: Chief Imam, others defy Sultan, hold prayers in Ibadan

Contrary to the directive of the Sultan of Sokoto that Eid-el-Fitri celebration should hold today, the Oyo state deputy governor, Rauf Olaniyan, the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Saliu Adetunji, and the deputy national chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) SW, Ambassador Taofeek Arapaja, Wednesday, observed the end of Ramadan fasting prayers at Agodi praying ground in Ibadan.

Others at the end of Ramadan fasting prayers led by the Chief Imam of Ibadan, Sheikh AbdulGaniyu Abubakry Agbotomokekere, included the Oyo state deputy chief of staff, Najeem Mogbonjubola, Chief Lamidi Ajadi, Alhaji Azeem Gbolarunmi and others.

In his sermon, the chief imam of Ibadanland, Sheikh Agbotomojekere, asked Nigerians to continue to pray for Nigeria and its leaders, especially at this trying period.

Sheikh Agbotomojekere while emphasizing the importance of Ramadan fasting urged Muslim faithful to continue to abide by the lessons of the fasting by reflecting it in their day to day activities.

He congratulated Muslim faithful for seeing the end of this year’s Ramadan fasting and for a successful completion of the fasting.

It will be recalled that the Chief Imam of Ibadanland, Sheik Agbotomokekere, on his Facebook page, Tuesday morning announced the end of this year’s Ramadan fasting and that he would lead the Eid prayer Wednesday.
