Eid-el-Fitr: Price of chicken hits the roof in Damaturu

Price of chickens has gone high in Damaturu and its environs ahead of Eid-el-Fitr festivities.

A survey by Blueprint correspondent in Damaturu Tuesday showed that the prices skyrocketed compared to last year 2020. A local big cock which was sold for N1, 500 was now sold for between N2, 400 to N2, 800.

The survey also showed that the price of a broiler which was sold for N2,000 last year now sells for between N2,500 to N3,000.

In an interview with Blueprint correspondent, Abdullahi Bukar, chicken sell manager at Bin Bukar Farm in Damaturu attributed the increase to hike on the price of feed.

“Feed 25kg which was sold N3,300 last year 2020 now sells for N6, 800.”Abdullahi said.

Mohammed Damazai, a civil servant in Damaturu, preferred to slaughter a goat due to the high cost of the birds in the market.
