Eid-el-Kabir: Arewa youth felicitate with Muslims, urge peace

A group, Arewa Youths for Peace and Security, has urged Muslim Ummah across the country op preach peace for national integration as they celebrate this year’s Eid el-Kabir.

The group made the call on Sunday in a statement issued by its image maker, Salihu Dantata Mahmud.

It appealed to bandits in Zamfara, Katsina and Sokoto states to take advantage of the gesture of Governor Matawalle of Zamfara state to grant pardon and amnesty to them to lay down their arms in the interest of peace, security and national integration.

The group also called on Boko Haram insurgents in Borno, Yobe and Adamawa states to cease fire and let peace return to those states.

The statement read in part: “We also want to use this opportunity to thank the patron of the Bafarawa Foundation, His Excellency, Alhaji Attahiru Bafarawa, former governor of Sokoto state, his director-general and the entire staff of the NGO for the roles they played in the reconciliation, dialogue and ceasefire currently taking place in Zamfara. We pray that the on-coming security summit by the Foundation shall bring an end to the menace of armed banditry.

“Nigeria’s unity cannot be compromised. United we stand, divided we fall. The stories of failed nations like Libya, Somalia, Syria and South Sudan should be a lesson for all of us. Without security, no development in terms of educational achievements, infrastructure development, social development, shelter and power generation can be achieved. We wish all Muslims a cheerful Sallah.”
