Ejidike charges Super Eagles to go for AFCON glory

The 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) kicks off Friday in Egypt with a record 24 countries taking part in it.

Expectations of soccer enthusiasts and stakeholders of the beautiful game is also on a high pitch.

The Super Eagles of Nigeria who are three times winners of the most glamorous soccer showpiece in the continent are one of the favourites tipped to claim the diadem at the end of the championship.

To this end, Nigeria’s Pillar of Sports,  High Chief Donatus Agu Ejidike, has joined the growing list of optimistic Nigerians wishing the team a successful outing at the championship.

In a statement released by the office of the Nigeria Pillar of Sports, businessman and sports philanthropist urged the team to go for total victory and bring home the trophy at the end of the championship.

“This time, the Super Eagles are primed and good enough to win the championship in Egypt.

“The football authorities have given the team good preparations towards the championship. And like other patriotic Nigerians, I expect the boys to beat all comers and return home with the coveted title, ” Ejidike stated confidently.

Ejidike who is also a board member of Karate Federation of Nigeria, hinged his enthusiasm on what he described as a sweet blend of experience and youthfulness in the team. 

Nigeria who last won the AFCON title in 2013 in South Africa, returns to the championship after missing out on two consecutive championships.

They will begin quest to reclaim the title with a clash against Burundi on Saturday June 22, 2019.
